This looks interesting..what kind of hide do you use? Was it hard to put together? Hope things are going well for you out there...sorry I haven't written you back lately on Myspace. I do think of you and the boys quite often and hope all is well...Have a great weekend!
this hide is horse, Mine is very thin and has a high pitch to it. Al's is very thick and has a low pitch. We plan on making more drums with Elk hide in a few months. The class was done by Al's Aunt. Not bad for our first drums. It was easy if you know what to do, The hide needs to be about 22 inch circle. with a circle band 14 inches.Soak hide for about 9 hours or so. then fold in half, (at fold point middle) have a piercing tool (like hold for leather belts) make hole about thumb knuckle deep in., then do bottom hold, then fold in half a other way and do the same, then fold in fourths and do holes. after you have the amount of holds you have wax flatten string (Synue) and make two arms length fold in half and put one in one hole and out the one across from it the use the string loop bring through and tighten down using a slip knot, do about 3 for each. then put two holes (strings) together and do slip knots as far as you can. then let dry with hide up, use clothes pins to air out bottom. your done. Easy. and if your hide is too soaked, rub on it and have towels under it before you start.
